Rope Jam Barcelona

A casual rope jam every Sunday afternoon

Who are we?

We're a group of rope enthusiasts, we enjoy to tie each other with rope. We've felt the need to create a new space where we could meet other members of the community, a place to practice rope bondage/shibari/kinbaku and to share.

Why?

We want to create an open space with feminist values and philosophy, where all people are welcome and safety and respect are paramount.

Tell me more! How can I participate?

We meet every week on Sunday between 17:00 and 20:00 in a dance studio we hire for the event. If you need the address send us a message below.

FAQ

How much do jams cost and do I have to reserve in advance?

Our 5pm Sunday rope jams cost 7 Euro per person. There is no need to reserve as these are all drop-in events. There is the possibility of paying for a monthly membership. Speak to us in person to learn more about becoming a supporting member of our community.

Are beginners welcome?

You don't need any experience to attend your first rope jam. Our rope community is a social and welcoming one and there is often the option but never the obligation to tie. At the Rope Jams there is always the possibility to watch and learn from others, or just have some tea and a good conversation with new friends.

Who are good local teachers? What about online resources?

Barcelona is an excellent place to learn shibari/rope bondage, here is an alphabetical list of some of the teachers. Get in touch if you believe we've missed someone! Alberto Noshibari, Barceona Shibari Dojo, Canitt, Glü Wür, Muganawa, Pauline Massimo

What shall I wear for a rope jam?

You are welcome to wear whatever you feel comfortable in! Most people do ropes in either street clothes or they change into something more comfortable like yoga/dance attire. Loose fitting clothing can get in the way when tying/being tied, and tight non stretch clothing like jeans can also get in the way of tying as it can restrict movement. But there is no dress code and you’ll see a bit of everything. Fetish/kink clothing (such as latex or lingerie) is extremely uncommon. See below for our rules on nudity.

What are the rules about nudity?

Any rules at the rope jams are to ensure the safety of our attendees, and since nudity isn’t unsafe we simply don’t have a rule for it. To us, a rule on nudity is tantamount to body-shaming. At busier jams the space can be quite warm, so it’s not uncommon for people to be shirtless, and as we’re big supporters of #FreeTheNipple it would be unfair of us to have different rules for guys and girls.

Do I need to bring my own ropes?

You can bring your own ropes, but if you don’t have any yet no worries – we’ve got boxes literally full of communal jute rope you can use. People sometimes donate their retired ropes to the studio so the pile keeps growing. To buy your own we recommend you speak to Pauline Massimo at one of the jams, she's local and her ropes are excellent quality!

Do I need to bring a partner? Who goes to these Rope Jams anyway?

About a third of our attendees come on their own. We hope to create a place for meeting and exchange. Every kinds of gender, diversity and relationships are obviously very welcome.

Why does this FAQ seem so similar to the one of Anatomie Studio in London?

We're big fans of what our friends at Anatomie have managed to build, they're an inspiration to us and we have borrowed some of their rules as we agree with them whole-heartedly and we couldn't put it into better words ourselves.
